Sinead O’Connor Takes Shortest Marriage Award of 2011

Looks like Kim Kardashian’s record for the shortest marriage of 2011 has been broken, as Sinead O’Connor decides to end her marriage to therapist Barry Herridge after just 16 days. The couple tied the knot at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas on December 8, which was O’Connor’s 45th birthday.

The controversial Irish singer-songwriter, who rose to international stardom with 1990’s “Nothing Compares 2 U”, announced the split on her website Monday:

“Within 3 hours of the ceremony being over, the marriage was kyboshed by the behavior of certain people in my husband’s life. And also by a bit of a wild ride I took us on looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for me wedding night as I don’t drink. My husband was enormously wounded and very badly affected by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage. It became apparent to me that if he were to stay with me, he would be losing too much to bear. … A woman wants to be a joy to her husband. So.. U love someone? Set them free.”

Still, O’Connor calls Barry “a wonderful man” and is asking for his privacy to be respected due to the nature of his job, and that the media not harassed him and his family.

This is the fourth marriage for O’Connor, who has three sons and one daughter.
