Karbi Anglong on a Mission to Revive Traditional Music

The Cultural Affairs division of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, (KAAC) in order to revive and contemporize the traditional music of the indigenous tribes of Karbi Anglong organized an intensive course on Karbi drum beating.

The training-cum-workshop on traditional drum beating of the tribal people was organized together by Cultural Affairs Department and Simsere Film Production at Phuloni Harmon club auditorium hall around 80 kilometers from Diphu. The training-cum-workshop was held at Phuloni Harmon club auditorium hall from November 9 and ceremoniously concluded on Monday.

Altogether, 40 artisans from different parts of the district received rigorous training in the drum beating under master drummers.

In the closing ceremony Bidya Sing Ronpi Executive Member KAAC holding charge of Art & Culture Department, and Dhaneswar Ingti, joint secretary of KAAC graced the meeting as the chief and invited guests. Chandra Sing Kro, president, Karbi Cultural Society (KCS), Thong Teron, general secretary of Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front, which is presently under ceasefire status was present in the formal procedure. Hundreds of cultural enthusiasts and distinguished personalities of the locality were present.

Hemari Tokbi, Deputy Director, Art & Culture Department put in plain words the purpose of the get-together. He said that a variety of conveniences were available in the Cultural Affairs Department. Dhaneswar Ingti, in his speech spoke about the necessity of preserving and modernizing traditional music. Chief Guest ceremony, Bidya Sing Rongpi in his inspiring speech urged the young Karbi trainee musicians to take a hands-on role to revive the glory of Karbi culture premeditated by old masters.

Each trainee received a certificate and a cash incentive from the department.
