The Brooklyn Jazz Orchestra is to play the rarely performed arrangement of The Nutcracker Suite, by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, at its next concert on December 2, 2012.
The concert is at the dynamic Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church, located in Brooklyn’s historic Fort Greene neighborhood.
Special guests include Grammy-nominated singer Carla Cook and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra trombonist Vincent Gardner.
The Brooklyn Jazz Orchestra is a large jazz ensemble, firmly rooted in the jazz tradition with an eye toward the future of creative music. Included in the band’s extensive repertoire is music from Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Thad Jones, and Gerry Mulligan. The orchestra also commissions new music and arrangements from today’s leading composers.

Paul Francis, the Brooklyn Jazz Orchestra’s founder and leader, is well established in the New York City music scene. He has recorded and performed with many of music’s most exciting and well-known names, such as Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, Jon Faddis, Ralph Lalama, and Frank Sinatra, Jr. Paul has also toured extensively with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and appeared on programs for HBO, ABC, and MTV.
