American Idol Adds ‘Heat’ By Bringing in a Fourth Judge

You know the saying — don’t mess with a good thing.

Well, that may be put to the test, as producers of American Idol adds Kara DioGuardi for the show’s eighth season. It was as much a surprise to fans as to the singer-songwriter when she came on to Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show this morning.

“I got a call from my agent”, DioGuardi answers, “saying, you know, they’re looking for a fourth judge, and I was like, ‘Uh, do you have the wrong number? Why are you calling me?’

“So, they met with me, and three days ago I got the call to go to New York–and here I am.”

DioGuardi, a Grammy nominee, is known for writing hit songs for several artists that includes Britney Spears, the Jonas Brothers, Christina Aguliera, Gwen Stefani, Faith Hill, Celine Dion, and even Paris Hilton. That’s hot, huh?

And speaking of hot, that is exactly what creator and executive producer Simon Fuller wants for season eight.

“We are turning the heat up on Idol this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges’ table” he said. “She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America’s most successful songwriters.

“We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show.”

DioGuardi will join the judges’ table this week at the New York auditions, as American Idol‘s eighth season will premiere on FOX next January.
