The son of an ornithologist, Randy was raised along with a menagerie of animals and a healthy appreciation for the wild. Since his first ‘job’ raising bees and selling honey, Randy has always believed in harnessing the power of market forces to help save the environment.
An adventure seeker at heart, Randy visited Latin American and South East Asian rain forests on multiple occasions in the mid 1990’s is, on a quest to locate sustainable-harvest products. While on one of these exotic, fact-gathering missions he realized his dream of creating a successful business that helps the environment could be a reality; after all, the Internet boom had begun. By the fall of 1998, Randy and several friends successfully launched Care-Mail, the online greeting card company. Based on the popularity of Care-Mail, the company launched Care2.com with additional Web services such as e-mail, community features, headline news and shopping in September of 1999.
Prior to founding Care-Mail, Randy was a consultant with the Menlo Park based venture capital firm, Commtech Management Corporation, where he was responsible for forming and guiding start-up companies.
Randy holds an AB from Harvard University and an MBA from Stanford Business School.
