Biggest Favorites for This Year’s Oscars

Only a few weeks are left before the ceremony, so it seems like a good time to talk about this year’s Oscar favorites. Let’s start with the Best Picture category. According to the bookies, the biggest contender for this award is Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri. This crime drama features an ensemble cast led by Frances McDormand, who already has an Oscar in her collection, for the role in the 1996 black comedy Fargo.

The Shape of Water is another critics’ favorite. Directed by Guillermo del Toro, this fantasy movie is considered to be one of his best works so far. Actually, the Mexican director is the number 1 pick for the Best Director Award. His biggest rival for the award is Christopher Nolan, the man behind the high-budget war movie Dunkirk.

Speaking of Dunkirk, it might not be the biggest favorite for the Best Picture Award, but it definitely has a chance to win a number of other awards – Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, and so on. Another movie that could win multiple Oscars this year is Call Me By Your Name. The same goes for the British history film Darkest Hour.

Best Actor/Actress

There is a consensus among movie critics that Gary Oldman is the biggest favorite for the Best Actor Award. Many believe that the role of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour is the finest moment of his career. Timothee Chalamet seems like the only other actor who could ruin Oldman’s party. The 22-year-old American made a wonderful performance as the leading actor in the romance movie Call Me by Your Name.

2017 was a very successful year for Chalamet, who also made a notable appearance in Lady Bird. In fact, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he won the award for the Best Supporting Actor for the role of edgy teenage musician Kyle Scheible. Other contenders for this award include Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name), and Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project).

It is not going to be a surprise if Frances McDormand wins the Best Actress Award for the role of a mother trying to push the authorities into solving the murder of her daughter in Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri. Sally Hawkins and Saoirse Ronan are the other two actresses who seem to stand a chance against McDormand in this category.

How to Watch These Movies?

Although most of the Oscar-nominated movies are still in the theaters, it doesn’t mean you can’t watch them from the comfort of your home as well. Some of them are available on streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, but in order to do that, you will need to pay for a subscription. Of course, there are some sites that let you watch these movies completely free of charge.

Free movie streaming sites like Tubi TV and Snag Films allow users to watch movies and TV series for free, even without a need for registering an account. The best thing is that these websites offer HD stream even for latest releases.
