Human trafficking is the fastest growing crime in the U.S. Our teenagers and young adults are the primary target, with recruitment taking place in schools, malls and by social-media. Human Trafficking is often a crime of psychological manipulation; luring in unsuspecting victims with promises of love, and easy money. That means that ‘education’ is the key to keeping kids safe, parents informed, and our schools and community engaged in stopping the exploitation of our young people.

The three most likely targets of human trafficking in the U.S. are:

Foster Kids: 50% of child sex trafficking victims come from the Foster Care System.

Pregnant Teens: There is nothing more vulnerable than a pregnant teen without a support system.

Runaway and Homeless Kids: 1.69 “Million Kids” run away each year (6000 in Riverside County) and 35-37% will engage in prostitution within the first 48 hours to survive.

The Riverside County Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force is a collaboration of agencies working together to:

1) Identify and rescue victims of human trafficking,

2) Proactively investigate, identify, apprehend, and prosecute those engaged in human trafficking,

3) Promote greater public awareness through marketing, trainings, and understanding of the nature and scope of human trafficking within the County of Riverside.

These agencies include the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Diplomatic Security Service, United States Attorney’s Office, California Attorney General’s Office, Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, Operation SafeHouse, and Million Kids. The RCAHT Task Force also partners with local law enforcement agencies to include Hemet Police Department and Riverside Police Department.
