Positano Inspires Taste Buds Sicily Style
In the heart of Marina del Rey, two gentlemen have brought Italy to the city. Executive Chef Michaelangelo has brought his heritage in cooking from Italy, and Paulo Scavola has the business acumen to make Locanda Positano the success it is today.
The contemporary design with the artistic design of Locanda Positano brings families to a touch of traditional and contemporary cuisine in this hideaway. The world famous message from Chef Michaelangelo is straightforward. “Italians don’t eat to live, they live to eat.”
On this occasion my secret guest and I had a culinary journey that was quite fitting for the evening. The pastas, salads and seafood set our culinary journey.
We first ordered Barrata Alla Caprese, which is prepared with fresh barrata, heirloom tomatoes, oregano and extra virgin olive oil. This went well with the Insalata Mista Con Nocie Gorgonzola. The combination of organic salad with walnut and Gorgonzola was a good choice for my guest.
My salad, the Insalata Con Radicchio Arugula Pere was prepared with wild organic arugula, organic pears and parmigiano reggiano. The taste of the pears with the house-made dressing is divine.
At this juncture of the evening I normally would have a glass of one of the wide variety of Italian wines. However, my guest is a vegetarian, so I wanted to please her for her birthday.
For the main entree, Spaghetti Chitarra Al Pomodoro was served with homemade pasta, tomato paste and fresh heirloom tomatoes. My entree was Mediterranean Sea Bass with lemon and herbs. Another excellent choice for seafood lovers.
Because Chef Michaelangelo has an intimate restaurant and he makes sure all the meats are free range with no hormones and all the seafood and shellfish is wild caught. He also makes sure all his pastas are handmade, just like his mother made.
With beautiful conversations and music to fill our hearts, there was time to enjoy desert. Torta Di Formaggio is a version of New York Cheesecake with a touch of vanilla. It was not too heavy and had just the right ingredients. The second choice was Mousse Cioccolato Nero E. Bianco, which is a white and semi sweet chocolate mousse. What a nice way to end a culinary journey.
