Sometimes we all need a break to indulge in a culinary journey. Said Faraj, remembered for his supporting role in Green Zone with Mat Damon, enjoys delicacies from around the globe. We invited him to KD Cantina for a fun evening tasting various dishes, handed down from generation to generation.
Kay and Dave, the owners of KD have delicious entrees such as Garden Burritos and Portobello Mushroom Enchilada combo and Chicken Mole Tacos, Tostadas, soups and salads.
The chef has his own enclosed garden for the spices on property and the drinks are created from scratch, as is all the food.

Dave started his restaurant in 1999 when he gave up law and bought a run-down cantina on Pacific Coast Highway.
Although Dave had no experience in the restaurant business, he knew what he wanted in service and quality of food. General Manager, Silvia Lopez takes great care with the restaurant and diners.
Today his hard work has paid off and folks from all over Southern California dine at one of Dave’s three restaurants. Even the tortillas are made by hand and the sauces prepared from scratch with farm fresh ingredients.
Several of the recipes were discovered in Caxacan family kitchens.
Our journey began with the Cochinita Pork Pibil, slow roasted in banana leaves, prepared with Tlyudas, Molotes, Molcajete and a variety of cheeses, (Quesillo, Cotja, Ques co, and Fresco).
What a way to start off the evening.
Said Faraj Loves KD Cantina
“The cuisine is to my liking. It’s a celebration,” Faraj says.

We ordered a Pomegranate Citrus Salad, consisting of Organic greens, mexican squash, roasted red bell peppers, pomegranates and cotija cheese. The salad aroused our taste buds for other selections which included the Molcajete Azteca, prepared in a sizzling stone molcajete with steak, shrimp, chicken, relleno azteca, anchiole chili sauce, rice, and black beans with tortillas.
For those who are vegetarians, there are some veg dishes that are very tasty. The Garden Burrito is prepared with Spinach, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, rice, black beans, verde sauce, cheese, guacamole and sour cream.
KD Cantina cuisine is a celebration
There are also Veggie Tacos, Black Bean tacos and the Oaxacan Enchilada Combo.
What is most impressive about the cuisine, is that they don’t use any lard and they offer Gluten free and Vegan options.
