bacon pretzel rods

If you’re too lazy to make this recipe, you can always buy them here! But if you’re feeling crafty, here’s how to make these sweet and savory rods of awesomeness!

Makes about 50 Rods

Prep Time: 10-15 minutes

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

A standard size package of Pretzel Rods

A package of melting chocolates

A package of bacon (one pound)

To Make the Caramel:

1 c Karo Syrup

1c Brown Sugar

1c White sugar

1 Tbsp Butter

1 can of sweetened condensed milk

Directions

Cook up your bacon to your desired crispness. Once cooked, chop or crumble your bacon into little pieces and place them on a plate, pan, or cooking sheet. Make sure they’re laid out across the pan in a thin layer. (You don’t want a pile.)

Put the Karo syrup, brown sugar, white sugar, butter, and sweetened condensed milk into a large sauce pan over medium heat. Stir until melted and combined. Bring to a boil and stir for five minutes. Be careful to keep stirring so that it doesn’t start to burn on the bottom of the pan. Take caramel off the burner after 5 minutes. Put the hot caramel in a deep container.

Prepare a couple cookie sheets lined with wax paper. Dip pretzel rod in caramel, about 3/4 of the way and let it drip off any excess caramel. Then lay the rod on the cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzels.

Put cookie sheets in the fridge to help set up caramel. Once caramel is set, lift up each pretzel rod off the wax paper and mold caramel around the rod since it will puddle on the sides as it cools.

Once your caramel pretzel rods are cool, lay your crumbled bacon out on a sheet, pan, or plate. Roll your rod over the bacon bits. Sometimes it helps to just pat the rod down on the bacon on each side, instead of rolling. Do this to your desired amount of bacon bits.

Prepare the cookie sheets again with new pieces of wax paper. Melt chocolate in a deep container and dip your bacon caramel covered pretzel rods. Place chocolate covered pretzel rods on cookie sheets and place in fridge to set up.

Once they’re cool, put them in clear gift baggie and tie with a ribbon. Then you have the perfect gift for your favorite bacon lover! (Or just eat them… do whatever you want!)
