At Christmas, where the majority of families in America enjoy turkey dressing and all the trimmings that go along with a festive occasion, I decided to try something a bit different.
My friend, Rossana Huang, who is a vegetarian was delighted when I suggested we travel to the ocean and dine at Charlie’s Chili in Newport Beach. Charlie’s Chili, located at Newport Pier has been serving chili since 1996.

Unlike other chili recipes theirs is a different way to prepare a vegetarian chili. So, let’s start our healthy dining experience with a Romaine salad, with red tomatoes, radishes, scallions and a blue cheese dressing with croutons. Next is a homemade bowl of chili, consisting of tomatoes, black beans, lima beans, pinto beans, red onions, garlic powder, and Cheyenne pepper.

There are some other spices, but that’s a secret that the chef keeps in his secret book of recipes. I’ve never tasted chili as good as this. What’s more, it’s prepared daily from scratch and there’s no meat whatsoever in this dish. Afterwards, we decided to enjoy a soy burger on a whole wheat bun with tomato, lettuce, red onion and a homemade sauce.
Wow, just when I thought there was nothing better than a good old fashioned hamburger, I realized that a soy hamburger is just as good. The point I’m making here, is that we all need to eat healthier and spend a little time walking. With today’s fast foods and everything at our disposal, it’s easy to eat the wrong foods and gain unwanted weight.

So, I enjoy food that’s healthy, delicious and satisfying to the taste buds. Charlie’s Chili serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a diverse menu with menu favorites such as Mexican novelette’s, hot or mild, fresh seafood such as Shrimp n’ Scallops and Blackened Mahi Mahi Wrap and all sorts of salads and Baja specials.
I really enjoyed the eating out in Newport Beach. When you visit, please leve some comments below and let me know what you enjoyed the most.
