In 1988, the action hero trinity was finally complete with Sylvester Stallone in Rambo III, Bruce Willis in Die Hard, and Arnold Schwarzenegger with Red Heat. However, that same year, the future Governator successfully crossed over to comedy in Twins with Danny DeVito.
Now, after 24 years, a sequel is in the works with Triplets, with Julius and Vincent discovering they have another brother … Eddie Murphy, who’s set to co-star with Arnold and Danny.
The premise of the original was that Julius and Vincent were twins conceived due to a government genetic experiment, where Julius grew up to become the perfect speciman, while Vincent became a pint-size wiseguy. Separated since birth, they meet for the first time and set out to find their mother.
The success of Twins led to another hit collaboration between director Ivan Reitman and Arnold with 1990’s Kindergarten Cop. Both then reunited with Danny four years later with Junior with Arnold playing a scientist who becomes the world’s first pregnant man.
Reitman will not be directing Triplets, but he will be one of the film’s producers.
