Born Katherine Upton on June 10, 1992, in Saint Joseph, Michigan in the Midwestern United States, Kate was reportedly raised in Florida. Riding horses at as a young girl, Kate eventually competed at a national level. With her horse ‘Roanie Pony,’ she won three APHA Reserve World Championships for youth 13 and under.
At age 16, Kate reportedly attended a casting call in Miami for Elite Model Management in 2008 and was signed immediately. She later reportedly moved to New York to model, there signing with IMG. Her campaigns began with Garage, and Dooney & Bourke. in 2010, she became the face of Guess which greatly launched her fame, and in 2011, she landed in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She was named by the magazine Rookie (model) of the Year. This same year, she made her debut acting role in the film “Tower Heist.’
You Tube fueled her fame, along with TMZ, in April 2011, when an Internet video of her doing a sexy hip-hop dance at a Los Angeles Clippers game went viral, which stressed her playful nature, as well as her curvy figure. In 2012, Kate landed the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, which further rocketed her fame. That same year, she appeared in another You Tube video performing another dance that also went viral, and again got all the media talking about her figure. in 2013, Sports Illustrated hired her for the feature, coveted cover page once again, for the second year in a row for their Swimsuit Edition. Kate went on to grace the covers of Vogue Italia, British Vogue, Cosmopolitan, French ELLE, American, German, and Italian GQ, and Esquire among more. In 2013, she was reportedly named Model of the Year at the 10th annual Style Awards at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. In 2014, Kate was once again hired for the double sided cover of the 2014 50th Anniversary Edition of The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
