Rihanna Loves Chris Brown, or so she says. The on/off relationship between Rihanna and Chris Brown has led to accusations of domestic violence. That caused Hollywood, Dr. Phil, and everyone else to ask why would she stay with him instead of just letting go, walking out the door, and never looking back. Probably because of one reason and one reason only: she loves him and she can’t live without him. But what is love?
“We’ve been working on our friendship again,” she says. “Now we’re very very close friends. We’ve built up a trust again. We love each other and we probably always will. And that’s not something we’re ever going to change. That’s not something you can shut off, if you’ve ever been in love.” – Rihanna
We’ve all have our own definitions of love such as the belief that love makes the things go round. That love conquers all, and what the entire world needs is love. We’ve all experienced love as siblings, parents, spouses, partners, friends, and so forth. Still, we believe we know what love is through what we’ve seen on television and in films, through books, and listening to music. We have our own romantic concept of love because of what we’ve seen in the media.
Yet, the question remains: what is love? In the Bible, I Cor. 13:4-8 states love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endure all things. In other words, this is true love that never quits: unconditional, selfless love through the good, the bad, and the ugly. I John 4:8 said that those that do not know love does not know God, for God is love. To illustrate, God loves us no matter what — flaws and all, yet doesn’t mean we can do whatever we want, for in every action there is both a reaction and consequences that we must accept.
Loving someone doesn’t mean putting them down physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. If a man hits a woman, that’s not love; that’s abuse. If that man loves you, then he has no right to put his hands on you and hit you with them. If a man loves a woman, then he should honor, cherish, and respect a woman, and treat her as a queen. Loving someone means putting down the good things about that person, being patient and understanding. Although it takes practice, love is the main foundation of God, who gave up His Son for us so that we can be saved, for He wants to be with us as much as we want to be with God.
So even if Rihanna loves Chris Brown, she should not put up with abuse from him. That’s not love.
Love and abuse aren’t one and the same, for one of them is a crime.
