MTV Picks up ‘Scream’ As a Series Set for 2015 Debut

It’s been three decades since Wes Craven introduced the world to boogeyman Freddy Krueger in ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’.

Now, the director is reuniting with writer Kevin Williamson, as MTV gives a 10-episode order of ‘Scream’, according to TV Guide via ‘The Hollywood Reporter’.

Released in 1996, ‘Scream’ made Neve Campbell the new ‘scream queen’ in the role of Sidney Prescott, a young woman targeted by the ‘Ghostface’, a serial killer who has seen too many scary movies. Co-starring Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, and Drew Barrymore, ‘Scream’ spawned three sequels – revitalizing and resurrecting the horror genre throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s with ‘Urban Legend’ and the ‘Final Destination’ franchise.

The success of ‘Scream’ also paved the way for Neve’s ‘Party of Five’ co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt to star in ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer and the sequel ‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer’.

‘Scream’ also made Kevin Williamson a household name; he went on to create ‘Dawson’s Creek’, ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘The Following, and ‘Stalker’.

‘Scream’ is scheduled to premiere on MTV in October 2015.
