John Forsythe Says Good Morning Angels!

Good morning, Angels! – Charlie

Good morning, Charlie! – Angels

John Forsythe died late Thursday from complications of pneumonia in his home at Santa Ynez, California, his representative told TV Guide. The 92-year-old is the latest television icon that passed away, along with Robert Culp, who died over a week ago at 79.

Forsythe began his long career on television on the CBS sitcom Bachelor Father from 1957-62, as an attorney who becomes the legal guardian of his 13-year-old niece.

But it was the late Aaron Spelling that put John Forsythe in the peak of prime-time television. In 1976, he was the voice of Charlie in the sexy detective series Charlie’s Angels about three strong and independent women working for an suave, mysterious, and unseen boss as private investigators solving crimes. Despite critics, the series enjoyed a successful five-year run on ABC, and Forsythe reprised his role in the 2000 big-screen blockbuster and its 2003 summer sequel Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.

Forsythe then went into the boardroom with as Blake Carrington in Dynasty (1981-89). The series reunited Forsythe with Bachelor Father guest star Linda Evans. They created a supercouple with the Denver oil billionaire and the saintly Krystal, but their marriage weren’t without its ups and downs — especially with Blake’s ex-wife Alexis (Joan Collins) in the picture, igniting endless catfights between the two women throughout the show’s eight-year run. As usual, critics hated it, but Dynasty became a global sensation in the ranks of Dallas during the 1980s, earning Forsythe three Emmy nominations, two Golden Globes, and two Soap Opera Digest Awards.

Forsythe is survived by his third wife Nicole Carter, three children (one son, two daughters), six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
