What new skills could gamers learn if they gave up gaming for just 2 hours a day?

Online local services marketplace has found that gamers spend an average of 2 hours each day playing video games. Whether it’s games on console and PC’s or Smartphones and tablets, it seems that the majority of people like to relax and unwind playing games.

The study, commissioned by Bidvine.com polled over 2,000 members of the public and found that over half (55%) were gamers. The study found that the respondents that stated they were gamers on average spent an astonishing 2 hours a day playing games, while 34% admitted to spending over 5 hours a day gaming. 65% of gamers in the study were male, while 35% stated they were female.

The survey also found that consoles were the most popular form of gaming, with 48% of respondents stating that they played on one. PC’s were second most popular with 31%, while mobile apps accounted for 21% of answers.

In a bid to find out how this average gaming time could be used more productively, Bidvine enlisted the help of its qualified service providers, this included professionals from many sectors including teachers, personal trainers, builders and craftsman to find out how long it would take to learn a new skill or complete a task within the given time frame.

If the average gamer were to swap their game time of 2 hours a day they could:

  • Learn a new language within six months
  • Learn to play the guitar in 12 weeks
  • Train for a marathon in less than 10 weeks
  • Re-model their bathroom in just 7 weeks
  • Learn to salsa dance in 1 month

Taking about the findings, Bidvine’s co-founder Russ Morgan commented:

“We really don’t want to shame people for gaming, because it’s a great way for people to unwind and have fun. We thought it would be interesting though, to find out in relative terms what could be achieved within the same timeframe.

“We hope that these results will encourage people to try something new, learn a new hobby and finally get round to ticking some things off of their bucket or to-do list. I think most don’t realise how little time you actually need to allocate to learning a new skill, just think, in six months’ time you could be sat in a restaurant speaking fluent French to your waiter!”
