Starting Out as a Web Developer

Web development is a promising and rewarding career. The more computers and technology advance, the more demand there will be for smart and capable web designers. If you’re interested in becoming a web developer, learn a little bit more about what it takes to get started in this highly sought-after field.

Education

Most web developers have some sort of formal education. Whether it’s a degree from a university or technical training, education is important for web developers. Employers like to see professional training and experience on a resume, especially if you’re interested in becoming a web developer as a profession. That’s not to discount self-driven learning. Learning on your own is a great way to stay up to date with new advancements in the web development world and keep your skills sharp.

Learn a Language

If you want to be a web developer, you have to learn a language – like Javascript. Javascript is one of many web development languages that developers must learn in order to write code and create high-end functioning websites. These languages can be learned in school or on your own through training programs. When picking which languages to learn, make sure to do your research and choose the one (or ones) that work best in the field you want to enter.

Learn from the Experts

As with any career choice, we suggest that you spend a little time with an expert. People already in the web development field can help you determine if the job is a good fit for you. Like any job, there are pros and cons to becoming a developer, and talking to someone who does web development every day will give you a pretty good idea if web development is right for you.

Get Your Feet Wet

After you’ve had a little formal training and know a web development language, it’s time to get your feet wet. At first it may seem intimidating, but move forward. Take on small freelance assignments and work with others to create a project. As you build your working relationship skills and your portfolio at the same time, you set yourself up for job success.
