Folsom Police Officer Struck by Drunk Driver

On February 6, 2009 at approximately 10:45 pm, a Folsom Police Officer was struck by a suspected drunk driver. Two Folsom Police vehicles were on a traffic stop in the 600 block of Riley Street.

The officers’ vehicles were along the shoulder of the roadway with their overhead and directional lights activated. The officer was standing outside of the lead police vehicle when he saw a vehicle nearing. In an effort to escape being struck by the approaching vehicle, he ran between the two police cars towards the shoulder of the roadway.

The officer was pinned between both police vehicles when the suspected drunk driver’s vehicle crashed into the rear of one police vehicle, pushing it into the second. He suffered some injury to his leg and hip. Fortunately, he did not have to be transported to the hospital, but will seek medical attention. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Officers investigating the collision arrested 55 year old, Folsom resident, Jennifer Brown, for felony DUI (driving under the influence). Preliminary tests show Brown’s blood alcohol content to be over twice the legal limit.
