Expert to Tell Salinas Small Businesses How to Fight Wal-Mart and Big Box

Small business entrepreneur promoter makes special appearance in Salinas Thursday

SALINAS – How can smaller independent businesses and entrepreneurs fight against national, big box retailers”

That will be the subject of a presentation in Salinas California, Thursday, when Jeff Milchen, founder of the nation’s first Independent Business Alliance and expert in small business preservation, speaks.

Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. at Sherwood Hall, 940 North Main St.

The event, free and open to the public and specifically independent businesses in Salinas, will focus on how Salinas can help independent businesses thrive, strengthen the local economy and maintain a vital, sustainable community.

Milchen, an author and now co-founder of the American Independent Business Alliance, has helped more than 100 communities around the country implement programs that protect smaller businesses from big box and national retailers.

His efforts are designed, in Salinas, to support local retailers in the face of Wal-Mart and other big box retailers. The talks will show the community a wide range of tools to support local entrepreneurs used by dozens of cities and towns to help local independents thrive.

The event is co-sponsored by LandWatch of Monterey County and California Healthy Communities Network/Tides Center.
