Web2.0 Expo Attracts Great Crowds

The web expo in San Francisco at Moscone Center was packed with web professionals today, as exhibitors showed their offerings, gave demonstrations and tried their pitches.

The Expo is alive and well, with many new exhibitors and plenty of attendees. Exhibitors told NewsBlaze that yesterday’s attendance was huge, more than they expected.

It was a pleasure to see many familiar faces from last year’s event, especially Tony Hillerson from EffectiveUI.

While walking around, I noticed several companies that I interviewed last year, but they were so busy, I couldn’t get in to talk to them.

The O’Reilly booth was packed and as you can see from the video, there were great crowds and much discussion. Several point-and-click application development platforms were demonstrated, making development much easier for web developers and there were great project collaboration platforms designed to manage projects.

I spoke to an analyst about mobile application takeup and heard some very interesting and surprising statistics, but I can’t disclose what they were, until they are released.

Regarding pitches, some exhibitors did an excellent job of quickly nailing down their value proposition or benefit to the customer. More than a few still have work to do, confusing technical features and capability with what customers care about. It took me a few minutes to understand what some companies were offering, when looking at their documentation and the strange business names of others make branding difficult, if not impossible.

As always, it was an excellent Conference and Expo run by both TechWeb and O’Reilly and I even got to meet Maureen Jennings, who I missed seeing last year. Thank you for a great event.
