Minutemen, Veterans Refused a Spot in Patriots Day Parade, Pro-Illegals Allowed

Pro-Illegal Immigrant Group Invited to March

Laguna Beach, CA – The Laguna Beach Patriots Day Parade Committee has turned down the application for a joint Minuteman Project/Veterans contingent to march in the annual “Patriots Day Parade.”

Like the Americans of the Revolutionary War who were ready to answer the call to defend their new nation at a moment’s notice, the men and women of the modern day Minuteman Project are on the frontlines of protecting our borders. But that didn’t stop the parade committee from stifling their freedom of speech.

“If ever there was a time for freedom of speech, it should be on ‘Patriots Day,'” said Minuteman Project Founder Jim Gilchrist. “But the parade organizers have decided they want to censor the majority of Americans who believe illegal immigration is not good for our country. It’s a good thing they weren’t around in 1776 because America would still be a British Colony.”

“This is a slap in the face to all brave Americans serving in the armed forces,” continued Gilchrist, a Marine Corps Vietnam War combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient.

Veterans who lead the military group in the parade expressed outrage. “These are ordinary American citizens who just want to march to show their patriotism and support for a secure America. To be rejected in such a manner shows a profound lack of respect for the mission of our fighting men and women and the civilians who support them.”

In an ironic twist, the parade organizers are allowing La Playa Center, along with their sister organization, the Laguna Day Worker’s Center, to march in the parade. The Laguna Day Worker’s Center is a roadside day laborer hiring area. Many of the workers at such sites are known to be illegal immigrants.

Also, groups with political agendas that are paramount to their existence have been guaranteed a place in the parade by the parade committee.

The Minuteman Project planned to provide a float and several hundred non-uniformed marchers accompanied by 100 professional marchers in 1776 revolutionary era garb.

“Law abiding members of the public are not allowed to march, yet people who break our laws are welcome. I’m still wondering which country I woke up in this morning,” said Gilchrist.
