Crossfire War – Khomeini’s Grandson -Tehran’s Man in Damascus

Crossfire War – TEHRAN WATCH – Middle East Theatre – Gaza: Tehran – Damascus – Beirut – Amman/Jerusalem; Khomeini Grandson’s Strategic Sense of Timing – Advocate of Regional Unity – Military Response

Night Watch: DAMASCUS – Though he may like to give the impression he is just passing through it is impossible not to notice Seyed Hassan Khomeini’s strategic sense of timing and travel. He is the grandson of the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic revolution in Iran 1979, which set the stage for this World War III and not just against Israel. Israel is obviously the target of the current war planning scheme of Tehran and it is no coincidence that somehow Khomeini has turned up in Damascus, who has long been Tehran’s most important military axis partner, in order to confer with leaders of Palestinian groups and other like minded people. This is right after Iran Defense Minister Brigadier Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said Syria’s security is Iran’s security. [IRNA]

Seyed Khomeini seems to be Tehran’s diplomat without portfolio, an unofficial roving point man for its foreign policy, a low profile representative behind the scenes. He recently passed through Bangkok advocating increased economic relations between Thailand and Iran as Tehran seeks to incorporate more of Southeast Asia’s raw materials. Now he is in Damascus discussing the “very sensitive” situation in the Middle East, meeting the General Secretary of Lebanese Hezbollah Party Seyed Hassan Nasrollah at Iran’s embassy in Damascus, emphasizing the need for unity among Palestinian resistance groups. Khomeini has also called for regional unity among Islamic countries against Israel. Since the meeting took place at Iran’s embassy it has now probably been added to Israel’s list of targets when Damascus-Tehran join the war as well as Iran’s other embassies in surrounding Islamic capitals.

Before his departure for Amman, Jordan he and the others at the meeting also took time to hint some of the primary objectives of the Jihad by demanding the withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Syria (Golan Heights). Khomeini is due to arrive in Amman on Tuesday and with the same agenda. King Abdullah II actually believes the main cause of instability in the region is due to the Palestinian situation. He may not therefore be against seeing a need for another war with Israel, which he may believe will improve the condition of Palestinian people. Though I will be surprised if Jordanian units take part. Amman may however give financial and material support for Islamic units that are involved.
