Night Watch: JAKARTA – Just two weeks after his release from prison, for his role in inspiring terrorist attacks, radical Islamic cleric Abu Bakar Bashir has called for “holy warriors” to leave Indonesia and go to Israel to fight them in response to Israel’s attacks on Gaza. Bashir, leader of the militant Southeast Asia group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) linked to Al-Qaeda (Iran), was speaking in front of hundreds of members of the Crescent Star party in Jakarta. Yesterday thousands of members of the Islamist Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) demonstrated in front of the U. S. embassy in the capital to denounce Israel and shout anti-American slogans since Washington has long been a supporter of Israel. [AKI]
Regular readers of crossfirewar.com know that for more than a year I have been saying that during the next war with Israel Islamic groups from even as far away as Indonesia will go to the Middle East and prepare to attack Israel in a show of support for Palestinian people. As I stated then Jakarta would love to see them leave since they represent Islamic fundamentalism that is hostile to any foreign influence including foreign investment which is crucial to an active Indonesian economy. Extremist have also attacked restaurants and stores selling alcohol not to mention the horrific attacks on tourist resorts.
Tehran – Riyadh would love to receive them and send them on then prepare to celebrate their martyrdom. For years the House of Saud, the Taliban with money, have been sponsoring religious schools all over Indonesia, the most populous Muslim country in the world. A student who left one of the schools a few years ago said in an interview that everything is forbidden, during the five year course, and most of the students stay. Saudi Arabia established the schools, that include military training, to spread its favorite purist brand of Islam,Wahhabism, extremely anti-world, anti anything non-Islamic. Some of the graduates of the schools have been involved in attacks against Buddhist Thailand.
Attacking Israel however would rank higher on the extremist scale of spritual importance. Bashir openly declared Israel to be an “enemy of Allah” and perhaps not only because of its Gaza operation but also due to the presence of the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Bashir may say that the “holy warriors” should “liberate” the mosque, even though worshippers can go there, and free it from Israel. Spritual leaders like Bashir will probably rank Israel as the holiest front and therefore martyrs there will be the closest to Allah in paradise and may even have more maidens waiting on them. The last count was seventy-two.
This is the type of representation and leadership Tehran-Riyadh love to hear, providing more blood for Allah to consume. Israel will serve the same purpose as Bosnia- Afghanistan-Iraq-Caucasus, fronts to send those who have answered the call of the Jihad. Though the Jihad is largely economic and there is not much market for the salt in the Dead Sea, Israel’s spritual significance will cause more hysteria or what Islamic centers will call devotion. The campaign, the march of the martyrs is about to begin. Israel will be waiting for them.
