Finally one politician has the guts to say it. The big question is, why aren’t others saying this, because it is obviously true. Perhaps it is a case of saying one thing and doing something completely different.
Rep. Peter King (R-NY), says President Barack Obama’s statements on al-Qaeda’s abilities have become “schizophrenic.” This makes it more difficult for Obama to build support in Congress to deal with the threat that al-Qaeda still poses.
As King put it, “The president is saying the war against al-Qaeda is almost over. What that does, it causes concern among our allies. It’s hard to generate support in Congress,” he told Joe Scarborough on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
He added the president is extending the reach of the National Security Agency “more than ever before.” That was a direct reference to all the new surveillance programs, facilities and employees.
Rep. King, the former chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee and a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence went on to say, “It’s almost schizophrenic.”
Obama Sends Mixed Messages
The New York congressman is known widely as an outspoken critic of the Obama administration’s decision to close embassies in the Middle East and Africa. But he has been very supportive of continued drone strikes to disperse the al-Qaeda leadership.
King supports the strikes but also finds it “very troubling” Obama continues to send “mixed messages” concerning the strength of al-Qaeda’s operational abilities. ” … it’s hard to generate congressional and national support for what has to be done.”
There was no rebuttal from White House spokesman Jay Carney – just silence. They obviously just want it to go away, so it isn’t discussed.
