Heat Wave Kills Eight People in Assam

Heat wave claimed at least eight lives in Assam in past 48 hours.

According to report, six people died in the sweltering heat on Wednesday across the state.

On Tuesday, two people died in Guwahati.

On Wednesday, a person also died at Ulubari area in the city, while two people in Barak valley, one in Nagaon district and two in Sonitpur district.

In Barak valley, a person named Sivalal Rabidas died at Lala area in Hailakandi district, while a congress leader named Pranabananda Das died at Katigara Lebarkata area near Silchar.

In Nagaon district, a 50-year old Majibur Rahman died at Singia area.

According to the Regional office of the Meteorological department, on Wednesday, they registered a high of 38.8 degree Celsius in Guwahati, 39 degree Celsius at Bongaigaon, the highest ever in 33 years in the state.

In May 1, 1960, a recorded of 40.3 degree Celsius registered in Guwahati and the maximum temperature recorded in Assam.

Meanwhile, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration had ordered to close the all educational institutions in the district on June 14 and 15.
