The Highest Salute, Appreciation, and Praise Goes to Film Critic Kam Williams

Yesterday, Rel Dowdell, the American storyteller, screenwriter, film director, film producer, and screenwriting educator, wrote to NewsBlaze, asking us to print his “thank you” letter to Kam Williams, a NewsBlaze Film critic. It isn’t unusual for us to receive letters about writers, but letters of high praise – especially for film critics – are rare.

Rel’s first feature film, ‘Train Ride,’ received critical acclaim, and Kam had recently interviewed him, about ‘Changing the Game’, his second release, a drama.

Here is the letter:

Veteran film critic of note Mr. Kam Williams is the kind that truly makes all the difference. He is a true purist in one who gives critical analyses of films. He is able to see all the nuances and levels of a film.

Moreover, he isn’t afraid to give other films that deserve notoriety the recognition they sacrifice and fight so hard for to receive.

The arduous struggle and multitudinous struggle of an independent filmmaker is worthwhile because of those like him. It takes real courage and fortitude to be a true individual and trailblazer in one’s field.

film

I truly believe that Mr. Williams is truly one that others need to follow in every aspect and manner in order to really make the collective mindset of those who assess films better.

Mr. Williams, as a filmmaker, I give you the highest salute, appreciation, and praise.

Rel Dowdell Director,

“Changing the Game”

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Rel is a man who never gives up. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in English with Magna Cum Laude honors from Fisk University and a Master’s Degree in Film Production with highest distinction from Boston University.

‘Train Ride’ was independently financed, and in 2005, it was acquired and distributed by Sony Pictures. Gerald Peary at The Boston Phoenix rated it one of 2005’s best American films, and Irv Slifkin praised it in his bestseller, “Filmadelphia: A Celebration of a City’s Movies.”

For “Changing the Game,” Rel Dowdell was both writer and director, shooting in Philadelphia in summer 2010 and released in May of 2012.

We appreciate Rel Dowdell taking the time to write, as I am sure Kam Williams will, too.
