Somali FA Outlines Regional Development Work Plans

Somali Football Federation today outlined its development activity plans to be launched in the central Somali regions in the second week of March in a bid to promote refereeing, management and coaching skills of its bearers in several regions.

Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab said in a press statement issued in Mogadishu that his federation is scheduled to organize different development courses in the semi-autonomous Somali regional state of Gal-Mudug where at least 80 persons will benefit from the different football-related courses.

At least 20 Football administrators including presidents and secretariat members from Middle Shabelle region, Hiiraan, Galgaduud and Mudug will undergo the management course which meant to upgrade their managing skills. Twenty currently serving coaches from the regions will be given a coaching course and 40 future referees will be trained as well.

SFF secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab said in his press statement that the courses will last for 14 days according to the Somali Football Federation 2012 annual work plans.

The secretary General said that Somali Football Federation is very grateful to the relatively calm Gal-Mudug regional state for its acceptance to host the football development courses.

The following are the objectives of the development courses:

  • To enhance the football knowledge and skills of the people in those regions.
  • To spread the power and activity of Somali Football Federation across the country.
  • To create very skilled football bearers in terms of administration, refereeing and coaching.
  • To help the people in regions to have adequate knowledge so that they will be able to manage their own activities in the near future.
  • To guide the youths in the regions to Football for peace and to protect them from being monopolized as warriors in Somalia’s dirty conflicts.
  • Somali FA will organize particular competitions for the four regions to examine if they have really benefited from the courses.

The statement noted that all development courses will be conducted by CAF affiliated Somali National instructors.
