Olivia Ramirez Smith and the Business of Reconnecting Women to the Earth

Olivia Ramirez Smith has built a career on a question most modern wellness experts would not think to ask. What would happen if women simply touched the ground again?

For more than two decades, Olivia Ramirez Smith has answered that question through books, films, retreats, and a wellness company called The Mother Earth Effect LLC. The work has earned her a global reputation as “The Earthing Ambassador,” a title she now answers to wherever she goes.

The company she founded sits at the center of a movement she helped build. The Mother Earth Effect LLC produces books, documentaries, and earthing products designed to make the science of grounding accessible to people who have only ever heard of it as folklore. Olivia Ramirez Smith is the company’s Founder and CEO. She also contributes her writing to its books, co-produces its films, and leads its retreats.

She is the #1 bestselling author of The Mother Earth Effect, a work that explores the science and the stories behind grounding, with a foreword by Mariel Hemingway. She is the co-author of the number one bestseller Sacred Spaces: Subtle Shifts for Mind, Body, and Home Transformation, a collaboration led by Colleen Avis that won the Books for Peace International Award. She is the award-winning co-producer of The Earthing Movie, the documentary that brought earthing science to a mainstream audience for the first time.

Behind the books and the credentials is a practical method. Olivia Ramirez Smith is a Master Neurolinguistic Practitioner (NLP) and a certified specialist in Mental and Emotional Release (MER). She uses those tools with the women she works with to help them set down what they have been carrying.

Her career started somewhere different. In 1999, Olivia Ramirez Smith opened New Image and J. Michaels Med Spa in Victorville, California. She led a team of fifty professionals and watched, up close, the connection between emotional well-being and physical vitality. The med spa taught her what her books would later say in clearer language. The body and the mind are not separate, and pain has a memory.

She left the med spa world to teach what she had learned. Today she runs retreats for women under the name Sole Rooted, a six-day return-to-self gathering in Joshua Tree, California. The cohort is small, twelve women at a time, and every guest goes through a one-on-one Zoom call with her before they are invited. She speaks at wellness conferences and women’s events around the country. She gives away product, too. Through her philanthropy, twenty thousand firefighters are currently being grounded with indoor earthing equipment donated by The Mother Earth Effect LLC.

Olivia Ramirez Smith works closely with Clint Ober, the founder of Earthing.com, as her strategic partner. The two continue to innovate better indoor earthing products together. Their partnership pairs Ober’s two decades of earthing research with Olivia Ramirez Smith’s growing reach into women’s wellness, a combination that has done more to move grounding into the mainstream than either could have done alone.

Off the road, she keeps things simple. Pilates in the morning. Barefoot walks. Long hikes with her beloved Yorkie, Bodhi. She was born January 14, 1962, in Coolidge, Arizona, and she still credits that landscape with much of what she teaches.

Olivia Ramirez Smith’s mission, stated plainly on her retreat materials, is to help women root themselves in nature so they can rise in peace, purpose, and power. The mission shows up everywhere her company touches. The retreats are designed to send women home grounded. The books are designed to be carried. The products are designed to keep women connected to the earth when they are stuck indoors. The films are designed to make the science obvious.

What Olivia Ramirez Smith has built is not a personal brand in the usual sense. It is an architecture of return. A reminder, repeated through a dozen channels, that the most powerful medicine on Earth has been beneath women’s feet all along.
