The citizens of Montenegro today celebrated their national day.
US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking in Washington, DC, extended the congratulations of President Obama and the people of the United States, to the people of Montenegro on their National Day.
Ms. Clinton said the United States and Montenegro share a long history of partnership and cooperation that reaches back over a hundred years.
“Our shared vision for the Western Balkans – one where every country in the region realizes its Euro-Atlantic aspirations – is resulting in lasting stability and prosperity.” -Ms. Clinton
She stressed that Montenegro is leading the way as a candidate country with both NATO and the European Union.
“On this Statehood Day, the United States celebrates with you as your partner and friend. We are committed to this relationship and will continue to work closely together for a brighter future for all Montenegrins.” -Ms. Clinton
World Bank has classified Montenegro as a middle-income country. It is a member of the UN, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Council of Europe, the Central European Free Trade Agreement and a founding member of the Union for the Mediterranean.
