Things to Do When iTunes Will not Connect with iPhone

A large number of users reported the same inappropriate error 3194 to iTunes when attempting to update or restore their iOS device. When an iPhone is connected to a computer, a certificate exchange procedure takes place. The user sees the dialog box on the computer and mobile device with the ability to “establish trust relationship” between devices. If at least the device responds negatively, it will lead to the inability to connect and similar errors. There are methods that can be taken when an iPhone does not connect to iTunes.

1: Repair the damaged iTunes library

  1. Enter the DFU mode

3: Use iTunes alternatives to download and install the iOS update

Repair the damaged iTunes library

Therefore, when iTunes not detecting iPhone, it may have something to do with the iTunes library files. Directly download this handy tool to a PC or Mac and click “Fix All iTunes Problems.” After repair, reconnect the iOS device to iTunes and try again. If it still does not work; another option is removing and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes.

Enter the DFU mode

DFU (Device Firmware Update) is a particular mode in which to restore the iOS device firmware when any other attempts to reset the device were unsuccessful.

How to let the device into recovery mode?

  1. Turn off the device entirely and connect to the computer.
  2. Hold down the Power & Home button for 10 seconds. On iPhone 7/8/8 Plus, replace the “Home” and “Volume Down” buttons. On iPhone X – To do this, first press the Volume Up button, then the Volume Down button, and then hold down the Side Button until you see the iTunes recovery screen.
  3. Press the power button, but continue to hold the other button for 3 seconds. If a message appears stating that iTunes is detecting the device in recovery mode, then it is now in DFU mode. When iTunes successfully recognizes the iPhone, cproceed to iTunes.

Use iTunes alternatives to download and install the iOS update

However, after using the methods described above and there is still no connection between iPhone and iTunes, there are alternative iTunes products to do the same work without getting annoying iTunes errors 3194. There are free trials available to install on a computer. After that, select “Restore Operating System”> “Fix”> “Download IPSW Files”> “Fix Now,” respectively, and the iOS device will return to the norm with the latest iOS version installed.

To backup or sync iOS data:

If one wants to sync with iTunes, this program also allows to save 25+ files in a readable form. It is also possible to selectively transfer music, photos, videos, contacts and more between an iPhone / iPad and PC / Mac.

Check the connector on the iPhone itself

Sometimes the problem is in the connector of the iPhone itself. Since the device is often located in pockets and bags, all kinds of small debris can interfere with its connector, preventing regular contact. Carefully remove it and try reconnecting the device.

Force iPhone reboot

This method helps in most cases. To force the smartphone to restart, simultaneously hold down the power button and the Home button for a few seconds. After the device boots, try connecting it again. By the way, one can also try to restart the computer itself.

Reset geo-settings

In some cases, resetting geo-settings can also help. To do this on iPhone go to “Settings” – “Basic” – “Reset” and in the opened window select “Reset geo-settings.”
