Premiership Roundup: Chelsea Clear At The Top

Five Premiership games were played today with a lot at stake.

In the earliest kickoff Manchester United missed out on a great opportunity to go top – albeit briefly – when they were thumped 3-1 away to Everton. Berbatov replied to goals from Bilyaletdinov, Gosling and Rodwell as the Blue side of Merseyside swung to a successful beat.

The Chelsea team would have been informed of this result and so they knew, when they headed to Molineux to play Wolves, that a win for them would give them some breathing space at the top of the league. Drogba opened the scoring towards the end of the first half when he tapped in one of the easiest goals of his career before adding a second with over twenty minutes to play. Chelsea ended the game with a solid 2-0 win and now move four points clear at the top of the table.

Arsenal thought their chances of finishing higher than third were finished weeks ago when they slumped to successive defeats by the teams above them, but they have since clawed some points back and they continued that run today with a 2-0 win at home to Sunderland. Bendtner opened the scoring within half an hour before Fabregas slipped in a penalty in stoppage time.

In a big ‘bottom of the table’ clash, West Ham United hosted Hull City. The Hammers quickly put themselves on the scoresheet with a third minute strike from Behrami. They then watched as Fagan collected his second yellow card and saw red for Hull in the second half. Cole and Faubert used the man advantage to get themselves on the scoreboard as West Ham breezed to a 3-0 win.

Portsmouth and Stoke are due to play later in the day to complete this Saturday of football.
