Aussies Visit Folsom, Love the Progress

The first time my wife sent local Folsom newspapers to her mother in Australia, it seemed a little strange. Over time, it turned out to be a good idea because they could talk about local things and both understand what was going on.

When the in-laws decided to visit us this time, they were keen to see the changes in Folsom that they'd been reading about since their last visit here four years ago. Folsom has grown quite a lot and there have been many changes including the beautiful new library.

So they arrived, and in the first week, visited the new Folsom Library, the Folsom Zoo and discovered "The Black Rooster", a relatively new, classy cafe in historic Sutter Street.

In fact, they liked the Black Rooster so much, they've eaten there five times! On the most recent occasion, I was there having lunch with John Gladding from myfolsom.com and they came in for lunch - it's the place to be seen.

The changes in the historic district are exciting and the in-laws went down to see the new buildings, especially Sutter Court with its first tenants, the Folsom Lake Bank and the fabulous toy store. Progress on the new historically-styled parking structure wasn't far enough along to see much, but it is a hive of activity and another thing to look forward to.

After a month here, it was time for them to go home to Australia and even though they originally said this would be their last time, I don't think we'll have much trouble bringing them back, two years from now. By then, the Folsom historic district should really be buzzing!
