Crossfire War: Middle East Theatre; Paris Pursues its Obsession

Night Watch: DAMASCUS – France, in its maniacal obession to rule the Middle East, is directing the Bush administration’s support for two UN resolutions critical of Damascus, just before the report is due on the UN investigation into the February 14 assassination of Rafik Hariri, strategically blamed on Syria.

Paris has been targeting Damascus ever since the removal of Saddam Hussein. Right after his overthrow, France’s then Foreign Minister Dominique Villepin makes a sudden trip to Damascus to meet and argue with Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad. Damascus had been making no secret of their cooperation with Tehran, even supporting Iran during its eight year war with Iraq, 1980-88.

Since then there have been constant confrontations and Damascus’ obvious support of the Islamic fighters in Iraq. That is why Paris-Washington were quick to blame Damascus for the Hariri assasssination, after Lebanon’s Defense Minister had his third meeting with Tehran. Iran is using the crisis to establish military coopertion with Syria as opposed to Israel and the West.

Just this week a Western Middle East analyst claimed it is significant that Egypt and Saudi Arabia are “giving Syria the cold shoulder.” The international social pecking order is of extreme importance to these immature, petty officials and their established advisors. Seating arrangements, who gets invited, or left out, spoken to or about, snubbed, recognized, praised etc. They actually believe that a critical word or report from the UN would be devastating and destroy Syria’s international social standing, its status, reduce the country to a pariah state, forever ostracized by polite heads of state. In this world of entrenched, official unreality they fall for any lie that pleases them.

As a current example Paris has arrested a former Syrian intelligence official who had been giving the UN investigation into Hariri’s assassination false information. Zuhair Mohammad Al-Siddiq, had claimed he took part in a meeting to plan the assassination then departs for a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia and somehow turns up in Paris.

I suspect Al-Siddiq is an agent of mis-information sent by Tehran-Riyadh just to mislead the UN, as well as Paris (Washington) as they make fools out of themselves by pursuing the fashionable policy of blame Damascus and assume the Middle East is not speaking to Syria.

History has shown that no European country is more obsessed with controlling the Middle East than France. With France’s established investment connections in the United States, Paris can influence a lot of Washington’s international moves. This obsession is the reason Hariri’s assassination summoned the French President Jacques Chirac to Beirut, as Tehran knew it would.

Paris may not want to admit publicly that it is Tehran they have to contend with. The Council of Guardians intend to make Paris’ acknowledgement of the Jihad’s successes to become a regular series of international concords all signed in Paris. Tehran realizes that cannot be achieved through peace.
