Snow avalanches for the second day in succession hit the Indian army in Kashmir on Tuesday. The weather fury has killed at least 18 Indian soldiers in Kashmir in two days.

A senior police officer said that a militant fired from point blank range towards a policeman, Mohammad Yousuf Sofi at Sopore town, some 54 kms north of Srinagar on Tuesday morning.

Police, army and the local tourism department launched a joint rescue operation to rescue the trapped soldiers. The rescue operation continued despite heavy downpour.

Srinagar, Feb 5: A day after militant leadership pledged to continue 'holy war' for liberation of Kashmir from India, a heavily armed group of militants attacked a police patrol party in North Kashmir, killing a policeman and a civilian.
