John Terry is Stripped of England Captaincy

Chelsea defender John Terry has lost the England Captaincy tonight.

The star defender has found himself the subject of much media talk recently after an alleged affair with the ex-girlfriend of former Chelsea and England teammate Wayne Bridge.

Family man Terry, who has two children, was named “Dad of the Year” in a Daddies Sauce 2009 survey and has been a rock in the heart of the England and Chelsea defense. The 29 year olds future was put in the hands of Fabio Capello who tonight decided to strip him of his captaincy, stating “As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour. However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad. What is best for all of the England team has inspired my choice.”

Rio Ferdinand will now step into the vacant role.

This seems like a terrible decision from the England boss with the World Cup just around the corner. Despite the alleged affair, Terry is still the best captain that England have had for a long time and one that could have led us to World Cup glory in South Africa. The personal life of a footballer rarely interferes with their professional life, even in extreme cases such as those of Joey Barton who still remains a Newcastle player despite his many troubles with the law, and this shouldn’t be any different.

John Terry may not be a great husband – if these allegations are true – but he is a fantastic footballer and one with great influence over his fellow players; an attribute that a good captain needs. Rio Ferdinand on the other hand has spent the majority of this season on the treatment table and seems to be past his best.
