Sanctuary Cities – Ongoing Myth of Liberal Compassion

President Donald Trump made it no secret when he was running for the office about cracking down on illegal immigration. He said repeatedly he would be enthusiastic in tracking down “bad hombres.”

Naturally, the far left, anxious to recruit new voters who are not acclimated to this country are outraged. How dare this president step on their recruitment agenda that goes against everything America stands for? Their argument has more holes in it than a Dutch dyke.

The liberals created their sanctuary city program to defy the federal government. The big cities, dominated by left-leaning progressives have already fallen into disrepair with their leadership.

A new Daily Wire report indicates shows an overwhelming percentage of illegal immigrants arrested by ICE in the 2017 fiscal year, roughly 90 percent, had a criminal record or had criminal charges pending against them. The liberals’ already weak argument is an empty one.

Pew Research found that of all those arrested by ICE in 2017, some 74 percent had past criminal convictions. An additional 16 percent of those arrested faced pending criminal charges, and a mere 11 percent had no criminal record or pending charges to speak of.

The report also showed ICE arrests in 2017 were nearly half of the number of arrests made in 2009, former President Barack Obama’s first year in office. Roughly 61 percent of those arrested in 2009 by Obama’s ICE were of the “non-criminal” variety.

Naturally liberals like to portray their former Messiah as the ‘King of Deportation,’ but that was far from the truth. The total number of arrests dropped significantly over Obama’s tenure in office. In Obama’s latter years in office, there was a decisive closing of that gap between criminal and non-criminal arrests.

Trump’s inauguration into office has seen a rise in arrests 30 percent higher over the previous year. Of those arrested in 2017 with past criminal convictions, the top criminal category was driving under the influence and possession or distribution of “dangerous drugs.”

Pew noted 88 percent of those arrested in the Southern California area had a criminal record.

ICE was compelled to make at-large arrests within the community of illegal immigrants, which inevitably brings them into contact with non-criminal illegals.

Take away the sanctuary city environment and ICE is permitted to make arrests in a “custodial setting” such as a jail or prison. There is far less chance of people being hurt, especially innocent bystanders. But because of the lack of cooperation, ICE had to make significantly more at-large arrests in the community than in prior years.

What is fashionable for liberals is deadly for law enforcement and innocent citizens in this country. It may bring them more votes down the road, but at what price? Liberal politicians like Libby Schaff refuse to cooperate with federal officials for their detainment.

Handing over known criminals would negate the need for at-large arrests and raids to track down known criminal illegals. That is common sense for liberals who have none. They want Americans to believe ICE is rounding up “law-abiding” immigrants.

The hard truth is, until the laws are changed, there are no law-abiding illegal immigrants. They broke the law coming here to begin with.
