New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Hits New Low in Recent Poll

How the mighty have fallen. It was just five-years-ago that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, riding a tide of immense popularity, gave the keynote address at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, FL. Wednesday, his approval rating fell to the lowest number any New Jersey governor has ever endured.

A recent Quinnipiac University poll indicated Christie has reached this epic low. According to the survey:

  • 15 percent approve of the job Christie is doing.
  • 81 percent disapprove.

Quinnipiac added that the approval rating is the lowest of any governor in any state it has surveyed in the last 20 years. It is deeply eroding the Republican Party rating in the entire state.

A good indicator of that is Republican gubernatorial candidate Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno. She lags behind her Democratic opponent Phil Murphy while support for a GOP-controlled State Legislature has fallen dramatically.

  • 26 percent support Guadagno.
  • 55 percent support Murphy.
  • 29 percent want a Republican majority.
  • 57 percent want a Democratic majority.

Not so long ago, Christie was the hope of the Republicans in a usually Democratic state. But now his hopeful successor looks bound for defeat. The winds of change could sweep Republicans from high political office.

Quinnipiac surveyed 1,103 New Jersey voters from June 7-12 by phone, with a margin of error of +/- 3.8 percentage points.
