Shifting Chances in November
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the Democratic Party is in deep trouble this November. Due to the left taking the party far from its mid-1990’s base, the discernible tilt may have a devastating result in midterm elections.
The Republican Party has an opportunity like they have not seen in decades for off-year elections without the presidency on the ballot. Their hopes to expand the 51-49 majority are upbeat. They think they can minimize losses in the House and even make small gains.
This may come about because of the far left’s stance on illegal immigration. They are advocating highly unpopular radical, impractical and unpopular immigration positions. That also includes their zeal for sanctuary cities and a call for the dismemberment of ICE.
Democrats Move Left
Their recent stance on the child-detention issue plays well with their fringe voters, but most mainstream Americans are more concerned about jobs and the economy. The Democrats remain silent on these important issues as they bang away at Trump himself 24/7.
Virtually every Senate Democrat has scrambled to co-sponsor the Keep Families Together Act, sponsored by Sen. Diane Feinstein, D-Calif. It is their sign of resistance against the president, but its idea is not resonating with average Americans in general. It may be a play to legalize more Democratic voters to their base, but existing American citizens in large numbers disagree.
The co-sponsored bill was written so poorly it does not distinguish between federal officers handling the border crisis and federal law enforcement pursuing the ordinary course of their duties. Bad legislation does not help the Democrat cause in November.
Radical Democratic Immigration Agenda
A recent Harvard-Harris Poll clearly shows most Americans overwhelmingly disagree with the radical Democratic immigration agenda. Yet they persist in creating negative feedback for their candidates. In fact, 64 percent of registered voters said people who cross the border illegally should be sent back to their home countries. Only 36 percent said they should be allowed to stay.
This number clearly shows just how out of sync the Democratic Party is with America. They have made the immigration mess a large part of their party’s platform. It indicates just how out of sync the central planks of Democratic immigration platform truly are.
Meanwhile, Trump has seized on this opportunity. He is communicating how totally unacceptable the radical Democratic views are and how radically they would change America if they succeed. For instance, ending sanctuary cities is an 84-16 issue in terms of popularity.
Then there is the Democratic plan to abolish ICE. That idea is rejected by Americans 69 percent to 31 percent. In 2017 alone, ICE seized roughly 2,400 pounds of deadly fentanyl, preventing many American deaths.
Public support for Republican immigration positions ranges from a low of 60 percent to a high of 84 percent. If DNC Chairman Mike Perez does not go back to the drawing board quickly, an historic loss for the Democrats looms in November. Their polling must be telling them something else!
