The Hillary Clinton campaign is in turmoil. With less than 57 days left and three national debates on the horizon, will her now very public health issues allow her to continue? After her collapse after leaving a 9/11 event in New York City Sunday, her personal doctor had no choice but to say she has pneumonia. No more campaign secrets.
But is that now the truth after months of hiding the real diagnosis, or are there multiple illnesses? Ms. Clinton is seriously ill and has cancelled her trip to California raising even more eyebrows. What medication is she on and is it affecting her mind? Many independent doctors have expressed she has not been the same since her fall months ago, and unreported, at the time, a major concussion.
Then there is her absence from the campaign trail in late August and her fifteen-minute press conference. She had time for only six softball questions. She had the mini-press conference only because it was becoming national news that her last one was almost 300-days before. Why? What are the American people being kept in the dark about?
On Friday, addressing a LGBT audience, a visibly weak Clinton told an audience of donors that half of Donald Trump’s supporters fall into “the basket of deplorables.” That meant people who are racist, sexist, homophobic or xenophobic, in her own words. And she was applying those descriptions to hald of Donald Trump’s supporters. She had apparently gone off-script reveling in an audience that clearly wanted to hear such outrageous comments.
Was she so medicated that her mind wasn’t working clearly? Or did she really mean to say that? Watching her on the video, she appears to be reading from a teleprompter. Will it be blamed on a speech writer?
No speech writer working for a candidate would ever go as far as she did. She was calling millions and millions of Americans something less than real human beings. Is that going to fly with Trump supporters and those that are considering his candidacy or hers?
Then, in an effort to explain the support behind Trump, Clinton went on to describe the rest of Trump supporters as people who are looking for change in any form because of economic anxiety and urged her supporters to empathize with them.
Verbatim, she said, “To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables, right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it. And unfortunately, there are people like that and he (Trump) has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people, now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric.”
She went on to say, “Some of these people were irredeemable and not America.” Such damaging words have sent shockwaves through her campaign staff and Americans everywhere. Why would she do that unscripted? Why?
It wasn’t the first time Clinton had made these sorts of comments. In an interview the day before with an Israeli television station, the jargon was identical.
Naturally, this red meat outrage caused Trump to quickly react to her remarks. He compared them to President Barack Obama’s comments about clinging to “guns and religion” at a 2008 campaign fundraiser and Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” remark in 2012. Trump tweeted, “Wow, Hillary Clinton was SO INSULTING to my supporters, millions of amazing, hard-working people. I think it will cost her at the Polls!”
There can be no doubt the Democrats are behind closed doors wondering where this will all go. Will the American people be satisfied with the pneumonia diagnosis? How will she handle the barrage of attacks she will endure from a fired-up Trump at the debates?
