The 17th Amendment Is a Curse to Commonsense Americans

Wouldn’t it be interesting to get straight information about legal and illegal immigration? What would it be like to open a newspaper, read a blog or watch television and get a true perspective void of hysterical political correctness?

Career politicians in Washington endlessly angle for the proper talking points that their base will nod to with bobbing heads. Senators like Illinois’ Dick Durbin and New York’s Chuck Schumer claim to have the nation’s best interests at heart in their quest to provide amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants in this country.

But is that the real reason? Isn’t it true that the Democratic Party wants to increase their rubber stamp voters? Aren’t those presently illegals the perfect candidates to up the numbers? These Democrats work on behalf of those who are not citizens at the peril of Americans.

The current immigration debate centers on two policies. One is the fate of the so-called ‘Dreamers,’ or better put, people who are in this country illegally. The second is the idea of ‘chain migration,’ an outdated immigration policy that says once a single illegal is given status he/she should be allowed to bring dozens of relatives here.

Is that good for the country? Is anyone asking that on the far left? In other words, an illegal is granted amnesty and whether or not they have a job, education, can speak the language or any other useful criteria for productive Americans, that is only the beginning for the taxpayer.

Liberals, if they were honest, think anyone and everyone who wishes to come to this country should be allowed to do so. No borders because that is not “inclusive.” If you disagree, you are labeled a racist or a bigot or both. That is the line, and they are sticking to it.

The liberals could not care less what most Americans think. It is their political agenda above all other issues the country faces as a people. A Harvard-Harris poll (yes, liberal Harvard) found that 80 percent of Americans are against chain migration and want it ended. That includes 85 percent of African Americans who want merit-based immigration and are against chain migration. They are a big part of the Democratic base, but they have become collateral damage for the liberal politicians’ quest for Hispanic rubber stamp votes.

Liberal Democrats are turning their collective back on what Americans want in order to push for millions of lawbreaking illegals. It is as simple as that. Illegals are the moral imperative for Democrats if they expect to become an unbeatable electoral powerhouse by overwhelming the votes of native American citizens.

It is indeed that simple. If you do not agree with that, you are a racist, a bigot or both.

A huge mistake was made in 1913 when the Constitution was changed. It allowed our citizens to vote in the senators we now elect. In the beginning and until 1913, we did not elect our senators to that chamber because the founders originally meant for them to be individually appointed to office by the legislatures of the states.

In 1913, that all changed. The 17th Amendment thereby changed the founders’ original intent. Oh, it sounds good to say that was a populist move. It has proved to be an utter disaster.

Originally, members of the House of Representatives were to represent the needs of the people of their regions or states, which is why they are elected directly by the citizens of a state. Senators, on the other hand, were to represent the state legislatures in Congress to assure that Federal power did not usurp state sovereignty and were, therefore, appointed by those same state legislatures accordingly.

We have essentially eliminated any say state governments have in federal matters now that senators are not beholden to their state legislatures. The result is a Band-Aid on a malignant cancer. Senators have gravitated to adherence to strict party lines making them beholden to the national parties and not the state or the people who elected them.

It has totally eliminated state control or representation in the halls of Congress. That has led to an endless stream of Federal rules and regulations crippling the states and their individual rights.

This nationalization of issues makes an independent candidate almost impossible to elect. The party is the arbiter that “allows” people to run. This has banished the truly conservative candidate to the wilderness of politics.

Think about it. Take a hard look at your “national senators” and just how concerned they are about their own state’s needs. You will be able to select a lot more than a handful who don’t care about that sphere of influence over the national media and the dollars involved.
