Excitement Builds in Folsom at Visual Arts Center Groundbreaking

Around 300 people attended the Visual and Performing Arts Center groundbreaking celebration, on Folsom Lake College campus, yesterday.

The Center, estimated to cost $44 million, has most of the funding arranged through bonds and previous fundraising, with around $2 million still to be raised.

Plans for the center include an 800 seat theater, a 200 seat studio theater, a 100 seat recital hall, an art gallery, and faculty offices. The Grand Opening is scheduled for Fall 2010.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Eric King presented a $250,000 check, on behalf of Folsom City Council, bringing the City’s contribution to $500,000. Bank of America presented a check for $250,000 and the directors and shareholders of the new Folsom Lake Bank presented a $25,000 check.

Folsom City Councillor Jeff Starsky acted as MC, lauding “the most beautiful campus in California,” and “the Visual and Performing Arts Center that is not only going to improve the knowledge industry in Folsom, but also all of the commercial industry.”

Starsky introduced three Cimorelli sisters who provided a few minutes of harmonized singing entertainment before the speeches.
