Dee Jurge, Blankets of Hope Director, Wears Many Hats – and Wings

“This is all a privilege to me.”

Dee Jurge – Blankets of Hope Director, Wounded Team – San Diego

In 2004, Dee Jurge adopted her first Marine in Baghdad, and answered a “Can you Sew?” question on the Soldiers’ Angels forum.

She sent five handmade blankets, and then got a call from Patti, asking her to put together the Blanket of Hope team. Back then, the team had about 30 members, who handcrafted the blankets with love, compassion and often prayers, so that every wounded backpack had a Blanket Of Hope that told a wounded hero “we care about you.”

Today, the team of several thousand has now sent out in excess of 12,000 Blankets Of Hope to wounded, to veterans and to deployed men and women. Today, the team also makes sand and cool scarves, afghans, wheelchair bags and more.

Dee also shares about the beginnings of VALOUR-IT, the Soldiers’ Angels’ program to help the wounded reintegrate into society.
