A Letter to the President of The United States of America from Iran

This is an “Iranian Letter” to the President of the United States of America who announced a few days ago, “Iran was dangerous, Iran is dangerous and Iran will be dangerous if they have the know-how to make a nuclear weapon.”

I am a sport writer and soccer is my favorite field so therefore I cannot (It is better to say I don’t want) to speak about politics. I am writing the letter at the suggestion of a friend who is American. I am a father who works for his family and loves people around the world, despite your idea that I am, as a Persian, dangerous.

Mr. President, please listen to me. Have you ever gone to the United Nations? Have you ever seen the entrance to the Hall of Nations? Have you ever read Sa’di’s* poem:

“Of one Essence is the human race,

Thusly has Creation put the Base;

One Limb impacted is sufficient,

For all others to feel the Mace.”

No, Mr. President, we were not dangerous, we are not dangerous and we will not be dangerous. It is hard to believe that you accused the nation of being malignant while Iranians have yet to do wrong behavior.

I have so many amicable disabled friends who lost their bodies in the Iraq war and remember who lost their lives in the war. I hate war Mr. President because it destroys my dreams.

Do you know Rumi*, Iranian poet whom the people around the world like his friendly poems:

Thorns turn into flowers by friendship

Vinegars turn into wines by friendship

Mr. President, I know you have no time to read my letter as you put yourself in jeopardy but you sure there is virtually no activity to harm your people.

* Sheikh Sa’di (1184 – 1283/1291?) is one of the major Persian poets of the medieval period.

* Mawlana Jalal-ad-Din Muhammad Rumi also known as Mawlana Jalal-ad-Din Muhammad Balḫi but known to the English-speaking world simply as Rumi, (September 30, 1207-December 17, 1273), was a 13th century Persian poet, Islamic jurist, and theologian.
