MoveOn, a progressive Civic Action group, that says they stand for “Democracy in Action,” today attacked CNN’s Lou Dobbs because he promotes “right-wing paranoid conspiracy theories about President Obama’s birth certificate.”
MoveOn says the controversy over President Obama’s birth certificate has been settled, so Dobbs is perpetuating “The fringe ideas of the so-called ‘birthers.’
Obviously, the issue has not been settled, because the birth certificate has not been produced. The “Certificate of Life Birth,” has about as much credibility as a birth certificate scribbled on the back of a lunch napkin.
MoveOn is trying to pressure CNN into taking action against Dobbs, but they appear oblivious to the fact that this is democracy and free speech in action and the matter has not been settled.
If MoveOn really wanted to quiet the controversy, they would look at the evidence and apparent cover-up, and petition the White House to release the real birth certificate, rather than waste time on diversionary tactics.
As backing for their stance, MoveOn references Media Matters for America, a progressive research and information center “dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media”.
MoveOn and Media Matters for America think it is OK for them to have free speech, but Dobbs is a paranoid conspiracy theorist who has no such rights.
