The Senior Administration Official said fifteen years of violence was ended in 2003 in Liberia. Ellen Sirleaf Johnson was elected president in 2005, and she has now been reelected last year in November to a second term.
She stressed that the United States congratulates President Sirleaf on her re-election and she said the United States will continue to work with her and all elected officials to advance democracy, and promote peace and prosperity.
She urged all Liberian political party leaders and their supporters to follow the rule of law and respect the official results. She said the United States strongly condemns any attempt by individuals to undermine the electoral process
