Two Rhino Poachers Arrested in Kaziranga

Guwahati, May 10: To protect the one horned rhino in Kaziranga National park, security forces and forest officials-guards regularly launched a joint operation against the poachers inside the park and the nearest areas and succeeded to arrest at least 10 poachers in last three months.

On Wednesday night, security forces arrested two rhino poachers from Biswanathghat, which is located near the park, police said on Thursday.

“Based on an intelligence report, Assam police and Assam Rifles launched a joint operation at Biswanathghat and nabbed two poachers, where a poacher team planned to enter inside the park and attempt rhino poaching,” a police official said.

Security forces recovered one 303 rifle and some live bullets from their possession.

The nabbed poacher duo was identified as Dilowar Hussain and Altaf Hussain.

On April 25, Kaziranga forest staff arrested two persons and charged them with their involvement in the rhino poaching attempts in the national park.
