Up Close and Personal with Lynn Marie Calder, Composer/Lyricist/Playwright

Lynn Marie Calder is an emerging composer and playwright based in Southern Alberta, Canada. Lynn created the concept, wrote the music and lyrics and wrote most of the book for Eve: The True Story, her first show. Eve: The True Story is a provocative retelling of the Adam and Eve myth. Just before Eve is about to be hanged for the downfall of mankind, she tells us what REALLY went down in the Garden of Eden. In so doing she reunites with Adam and they escape from the Serpent’s prison and set off for Eden to confront God, not realizing they never left in the first place.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Lynn studied piano (Royal Conservatory of Music), French horn and voice. She received the Drysdale Prize for Instrumental Music when she graduated from Lachine High School in 1977.

While studying at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Lynn immersed herself in musical theatre, performing on stage or in the orchestra for productions of Brigadoon, Kismet, Kiss Me Kate and Oklahoma and Jesus Christ Superstar. Since university, Lynn has been involved in community theatre, bands and choirs in Halifax, Toronto, Calgary, and the Pincher Creek area.

Eve: The True Story premieres at the Calgary Fringe Festival, August 1- 6, 2008, directed and produced by Lynn herself.

Lynn is a member of the Alberta Playwrights Network and the Playwrights Guild of Canada.
