Solo in Sacramento – Jim Hurst, Expert Bluegrass Flatpicker

Fifth String Music and Jon Fox present in concert two time IBMA Guitar Player of the Year, Jim Hurst

Two-time IBMA Guitar Player of the Year Jim Hurst, called “one of the most versatile acoustic guitar players on the contemporary circuit” by No Depression magazine, will perform a rare solo concert Tuesday, March 25, at the Fifth String Music Store, 930 Alhambra Blvd. (at J St.) in Sacramento. The show starts at 7:30 pm, tickets cost $15 at the door and all ages are welcome.

Heard most recently in these parts playing lead guitar (and singing great harmony) with the Claire Lynch Band, Jim Hurst is one of the premier guitarists in bluegrass and acoustic country music. He’s an expert flatpicker and an ace finger-picker, incredibly skilled in the styles of such masters as Merle Travis, Jerry Reed, Clarence White, Doc Watson and others. He’s performed and recorded with the top artists in country and bluegrass, including Claire Lynch, Trisha Yearwood, Sara Evans, Holly Dunn, Travis Tritt, Mountain Heart, John Cowan, Mark Schatz, Tim O’Brien, David Parmley, and more.

In addition to the records recorded with Claire Lynch, Jim Hurst has recorded three solo albums (Open Window, Second Son and A Box of Chocolates) and a pair of albums with bassist extraordinare Missy Raines. For samples of Jim’s music or for more information, visit: www.jimhurst.com.
