Remembering Bee Gees’ Robin Gibb

Singer and songwriter Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees passed away in London, England. According to The Associated Press (AP), Robin Gibb died on May 20, 2012 from colorectal cancer.

AP also stated that ‘Bee Gees’ stands for Brothers Gibb.

According to Wiki, Robin Gibb’s career spanned over six decades.

Most recently Robin performed on stage in February 2012 supporting injured British servicemen and women at a charity concert at the London Palladium.

Bee Gees
Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb

Originally the Bee Gees comprised of three young musicians and brothers: Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb (older sister Lesley, not a member of the band and baby brother Andy joined later).

These young musicians performed as a pop act in the late 1960s/early 1970s and as prominent performers of the disco music era in the late 1970s.

The brothers wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists.

Andy Gibb, the youngest brother, joined the Bee Gees in the late 70s. Andy also became a popular solo singer who died at the age of 30, in 1988, due to a heart and viral infection complication.

“The Bee Gees were second only to Lennon and McCartney as the most successful songwriting unit in British popular music.

[Robin] Gibb was one of the major figures in the history of British music [and] one of the best white soul voices.” – Paul Gambaccini, Radio and TV Presenter
